The Principal Judge Orders Judges To Stop retaining Original copies of national ID's For Sureties.

According to a Judicial Circular released earlier this week on Wednesday (July 07,2021) The principle Judge has directed all Judicial officers who retain Original copies of National ID's of Sureties to stop.

"Following several complaints by Court Users, it has come to my attention that as a condition for the grant of Bail to accused persons, many Courts request for National Identification Cards of Sureties to be deposited in Court until final disposal of cases" the circular reads in part."

The Circular reads in Part.

This therefore means that for sureties will be required to present at least duplicate copies of their National ID's

By definition in law,

A surety is a person who comes to court and promises to a judge or a justice of the peace to supervise an accused person while they are out on bail.
A surety also pledges or promises an amount of money to the court by signing a type of bond called a recognizance. By doing this, the surety risks losing some or all of the money they have promised to the court if the accused doesn’t follow one or more of the bail conditions or fails to show up to court when required.http://lawfacts.ca/criminal/surety
